IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR EMBASSIES, CONSULATES AND VENEZUELAN CITIZENS RESIDING OVERSEAS
Saime Press Office. August 25. The Administrative Service of Identification, Migration and Immigration (SAIME) informs that the passports renewed by the Venezuelan embassies and consulates will continue to be valid for entering or leaving the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela. This explanatory information is made due to confusions reported by some citizens. In this sense, we inform that the decision regarding renewed passports ONLY AFFECTS THOSE ISSUED IN VENEZUELA, WHICH HAVE NO EXTENDED SEALS ISSUED BY CONSULATES OR EMBASSIES. Therefore, the consulates are authorized to extend passports so there will be no problems regarding these documents. |
1.2 Information for the public
- This Consulate only serves residents of the following states: Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, Ohio, Kentucky and the District of Columbia.
- The consular section is in charge of watching over the country’s interests and protecting the rights and interest of Venezuelans within the limits allowed by the laws and regulations of the United States. The following is a list of basic consular services:
- Passports and travel documents for Venezuelan citizens.
- Visas for foreigners who wish to enter the country. .
- Registration of: births, marriages and deaths of Venezuelan citizens.
- Power of attorney.
- Electoral and military registrations.
- Legal documents and certificates (certificates of use, origin, quality, animal health, etc.).
- Proof of identity documentation.
- Consular registration for Cadivi.
- Watching over the human rights of jailed Venezuelan nationals.
- Only children under the age of 18 born to Venezuelan citizens can be registered; once the child turns 18, she or he must go to Venezuela to declare willingness to become a citizen.
- All Venezuelan citizens must enter and leave Venezuela with their Venezuelan passports (Law of National and Citizenship, 2004).
- Changes of name (through marriage or other modification), marital status, or date of birth appearing on a passport can only be made after the person changes their identification card at an Onidex office in Venezuela. The Consulate can only stamp a marriage seal in the passport that indicates a new marital status.
- It is worth noting that the consular section of the embassy cannot authenticate or certify the validity of a document issued by Venezuelan authorities (birth certificates, marriage certificates, school transcript, driver’s licenses, etc.)
These documents must be legalized at the corresponding ministry, and following that they must be sealed by the Ministry of People’s Power for Foreign Affairs (as part of a convention to which the United States also belongs).
- The consular section does not issue or renew identification cards. This must be done in Venezuela.
- Consulates do no issue criminal records. These must be requested from the Ministry of People’s Power for the Interior and Justice, Division of Criminal Records.
- Payment for consular processes must be made in the form of a money order or a check made out to: Embajada de la República Bolivariana de Venezuela.
- Regarding customs processes for taxes relating to personal goods and vehicles, upon arriving in Venezuela the person must contact the values division of the customs agency. Seniat. Telephone numbers: +58-212-7092808/ 7092807/ 7092809.
- Furthermore, it must be noted that the consular section of the embassy does not offer or give recommendations for: legal aid, translation services, notarization, letters of authorization, and travel or moving agencies. The consulate does not issue or serve as an intermediary for the issuance of berth certificates, federal registries or documents created in Venezuela.
