Margarita Island off the coast of Venezuela will serve as the venue for the 2014 Caribbean Series, the most important regional baseball tournament in Latin America and the Caribbean, which includes the best teams of the winter leagues of Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, Mexico and Venezuela.
The president of Venezuela’s Professional Baseball League (LVBP), José Grasso Vecchio, met Thursday with the directors of the country’s eight teams to choose the venue. Margarita Island, which has hosted the series once before, was selected for its good hotels and infrastructure including the Nueva Esparta Stadium, one of the best in the area.
Members of the Caribbean Confederation will travel to Hermosillo, Mexico, for the 2013 Caribbean Series later this month, where they will present Margarita as the 2014 venue.
