Venezuela’s National Electoral Council (CNE) has admitted eight nominees for this year’s presidential elections, which will be held on October 7.
The presidential nominees include current President Hugo Chávez, Henrique Capriles Radonski, Maria Bolívar, Reina Sequera, Orlando Chirinos, Yoel Acosta Chirinos, Rafael Uzcátegui, and Luis Reyes.
President Chávez was nominated by the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV). Another 10 political parties joined his nomination: the Communist Party of Venezuela (PCV), People’s Electoral Movement (MEP), Unified Tendency for the Movement of Revolutionary Action (Tupamaro), Venezuelan Popular Unity (UPV), Social Democracy Party (Podemos), New Revolutionary Path (NCR), Independent Party for National Community (IPCN), Party of Revolutionaries Organized for Venezuela (ROV), Revolutionary Labor Party (PRT) and Answer Network of Community Changes (REDES).
Candidate Henrique Capriles Randonski was nominated by the Coalition for Democratic Unity (MUD). Another 22 political parties joined in support for his candidacy: New Time Party (UNT), Justice First Movement (MPJ), Movement of National Integrity (Min-Unidad), United for Venezuela (Unparve), Popular Vanguard (VP), Liberal Force (FL), Party for the Renewal of Democracy (DR), National Authentic Party (PANA), Think In Democracy Party (PIEDRA), Organized We Decide (NOE), Movement to Defend the Community (Pocomunidad), Citizen Clarity (Claridad), Progressive Advance Party (AP), the Force of Change (FDC), Independent Movement for Change (ICC), Hands for Venezuela (MAPVE), Ecological Movement of Venezuela (MOVEV), Movement for a Responsible, Sustainable and Enterprising Venezuela (MOVERSE), United Vision Venezuela (UVIVZLA), Go Ahead Movement (Va’ Palante), Activist Popular Will (VPA) and Progresive Movement of Venezuela (MPV).
Candidate Maria Bolívar was nominated by the United for Peace and Justice Democratic Party (PDUPL), Reina Sequera is being supported by the Labor Party organization, while Orlando Chirinos was nominated by the Socialist and Liberty Party (PSL), Luis Reyes by the Organization of Authentic Renovation (ORA), Yoel Acosta by the organization Republican Bicentennial Vanguard (VBR), and Rafael Uzcátegui by the party Patria para Todos (PPT).
None of the nine nominations received by self-initiative completed all the requirements established by the CNE.
Of the 56 political parties registered with the National Electoral Council, 40 participated in nominating candidates for this year’s elections.
