Access to Internet and Use of Information and Communication Technologies in Venezuela Again Recognized
Research conducted by the technology company comScore found that Venezuela ranks amongst the top 10 countries worldwide in terms of penetration of Twitter, the social networking service.
The research, which determined the countries where people spend most time using Twitter, showed that Venezuela stood at 21 percent, behind only the Netherlands, Japan, Brazil, and Indonesia.
According to Venezuela’s National Commission of Telecommunications (CONATEL), over 10,272 million Venezuelans (35.6 percent of the total population) are now connected to Internet, out of which 2.6 million people are estimated be using Twitter.
Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez commented on his Twitter account (@chavezcandanga), which is the most-followed in the country, “Hey, we rank fifth in the world in the use of Twitter!”
