The Venezuelan government recently unveiled the National Plan on Integral Water Management, a strategic instrument that will guide water management during the next 60 days.
The plan –created by the Ministry of People’s Power for the Environment- fulfills the requirements established in the nation’s economic development plan (Plan Nacional de Desarrollo Económico Simón Bolívar), according to a press release.
The program is aimed at conserving the water supply sources in the country’s different regions, besides promoting the sustainable water use and coverage of current and future needs. Additionally, the plan will develop and guarantee the production of goods and services needed by the population.
Community-based Hydrographic Management Councils will be created in each region of the country in order to achieve such developments.
The plan is based upon a methodology established in a plan (Tren Hídrico) that shows through a flowchart the different components of an integral water management: the water source, management, infrastructure, use and service.
