The President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Hugo Chávez, spoke over the phone with various leaders in the region with the aim of informing and exchanging thoughts on the violent aggression that Venezuela has been subjected to by the outgoing president of the Republic of Colombia, Álvaro Uribe Vélez.
In conversations with the President of the Republic of Argentina, Cristina Fernández; the President of the Federative Republic of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva; and the Secretary General of UNASUR, Néstor Kirchner, amongst others, President Chávez expanded upon details on the aggressive campaign of disinformation launched by President Uribe at the OAS and analyzed the circumstances that led to the severing of diplomatic relations with the outgoing Colombian administration.
The leaders ratified their unwavering commitment to peace and unity in the region, and coincided in launching a joint effort by the sister nations of South America to reach an end to the attacks that put in danger the well-being and tranquility of the people of the continent.
