The Venezuelan Ministry of People’s Power for the Environment hosted the First Workshop of Design of the National Strategy on Environmental Education and Community Participation, held from July 19-20 in Caracas.
A delegation of Venezuelan and Cuban technicians on environmental education and community participation attended the event.
During the meeting, an activities plan was scheduled, which will be developed in Venezuela. Scholars, scientists, and other specialists from the private and public sector will join the plan.
The discussion of environmental issues will be carried out through a participative diagnosis, based on a wide national consultation on environmental issues. Institutions and communities of each state of Venezuela will participate in updating the plan, which will address governmental actions according to each region’s reality.
Furthermore, lines of work for collective construction were established during the workshop. The document of national strategy will consolidate in it first phase contributions of specialist in the area. In the second phase, it will accomplish the contributions made by organizations and community-based organizations. The result of the consult and environmental discussion will be presented at the end of the year.
During the first day of the workshop, held in the Center of Environmental Documentation of the Venezuelan Ministry of Environment, the Cuban experience on environmental affairs was presented, which will be the base for debate in Venezuela. Subsequently, Venezuela’s local environmental plans will be updated and adapted to social realities.
During the second day of the event, work tables were established in the Waraira Repano National Park, Caracas’ green area located at the north of the city, where a plenary session took place to discuss conclusions and recommendations of the event.
