Venezuela’s Minister of People Power for Foreign Affairs, Nicolás Maduro, said on Sunday, July 4, that the recent statements of the U.S. Secretary of State Hilary Clinton against Venezuela are part of a new “obsession” against the independent countries that are building a multi-polar world.
Clinton said in recent statements that certain governments in the world are slowly suppressing civic groups that play an important role in the development of democracy and social change. She directly referenced the governments of Congo, Ethiopia, Cuba, Egypt, Iran, Venezuela, China and Russia.
Maduro said that the U.S. attacks independent countries such as Russia, Iran, China, Syria and Venezuela , all of which are proposing a new way of international organization for a world without hegemony so that each country has the right to develop its own political model.
“This new attack against our country from Hillary Clinton occurs when the Summit of Latin America and the Caribbean is taking place in Caracas. Moreover, it demonstrates a policy of intrigue, aggression and desperation against the process of unity that is being developing in our continent,” he stressed.
Additionally, Maduro said that Clinton is continuing the same behavior of former Secretary of State Condolezza Rice, therefore, on behalf of the Venezuelan government, he rejected her statements and demanded respect for democracy, freedom, independence and the way Venezuela is developing its own economic, social and political model.
“We have a vital democracy of a new kind developing, one that points toward socialism, towards a new form of justice and participation. The people of the United States would like to have the political and social rights and freedoms of the Venezuelan people to fight for social justice,” the minister said.
